History of Baccarat
The Game of Baccarat originated in the Middle Ages. It has been said that the first game was played with a deck of tarot cards. Originating in Italy, Baccarat soon made its way and found a place among the upper class aristocracy. As it continued through the ages it was divided into 2 games – European baccarat and a French game called ‘chemin de fer’.
Cemin de fer is very alike to the version of baccarat that is played in American casino’s today. The main difference in the game is that one of the players banks the game instead of the casino. The banker title rotates around the table similar to the way dice are passed at a craps table. The interesting bit to observe of course is that the casino is taking no risk here; they simply charge a fee from each banker.

Casino Baccarat, as we know it today, originated in Great Britain, found its way to South America, and finally landed in Nevada.
