History of Baccarat

The Game of Baccarat originated in the Middle Ages. It has been said that the first game was played with a deck of tarot cards. Originating in Italy, Baccarat soon made its way and found a place among the upper class aristocracy. As it continued through the ages it was divided into 2 games – European baccarat and a French game called ‘chemin de fer’.

Cemin de fer is very alike to the version of baccarat that is played in American casino’s today. The main difference in the game is that one of the players banks the game instead of the casino. The banker title rotates around the table similar to the way dice are passed at a craps table. The interesting bit to observe of course is that the casino is taking no risk here; they simply charge a fee from each banker.

Game of Casino Baccarat

Casino Baccarat, as we know it today, originated in Great Britain, found its way to South America, and finally landed in Nevada. The Dunes casino was the first to introduce baccarat in the late 1950’s, and since that time, it has migrated all over the world and today Online Baccarat on the Internet.

Baccarat has a great number of overseas players as well. It has become very popular among the Asian population, who often travel to Las Vegas each year. Many people from different nationalities come from overseas to try their luck in the classy Vegas Baccarat rooms. Near Hong Kong, in casinos based in the Portuguese territory of Macao, baccarat’s popularity is unsurpassed. Unlike the orderly and methodical American casino’s, the Portuguese baccarat tables often allow for more than one player to bet on a single spot at the same time, while the skilled dealers keep track mentally of each players commission on winning bank bets.
